Advocacy Training Series

PAUSE4kids offers an 18 hour, three day Advocacy Seminar. This introductory course in special education advocacy is for parents, psychologists, attorneys and educators  who serve as advocates for special needs children. The program is presented over three days with 6 hours of CE or MCLE credit offered to  psychologists and attorneys for each full day of attendance. This  training typically takes place over the course of 3 Saturdays in the spring.

Topics Covered:

DAY 1: Perform or review psych-educational evaluations and apply the federal criteria for special education, eligibility. Determine the least restrictive environment (LRE) and the basic services that are needed by an eligible child and allowed by law.

DAY 2: Comply with the federal mandates for and understand the math of educational and psychological assessments. Select appropriate  common tools, and avoid problems with cultural issues, and limitations. Deal with forensic testimony in due process litigation.

DAY 3: Use effective tools when confronted with discipline issues, suspension or expulsion. Prepare an effective Individual  Education Plan. Advocate at the IEP Team meeting, and preparing for  testimony and litigation that may follow.

An event is not scheduled for 2011. A video course based on the 2010 event is in production, and will be available through this site for CE and MCLE credit once production has been completed.
